This was one of the titles by which the disciples addressed Christ. It means teacher or doctor (John 1:38). In John 13, Jesus claims to be the teacher of whom the disciples are the servants: He is the Master and the Lord. Mary uses the words "the Master" in speaking of Our Lord, John 11:28.
