First mentioned in the Old Testament as the name of the sister of Moses. The name Mary has been given many meanings, for example: "the well-beloved," "the magnificent," "bitter," "star w the sea," "lady," "beautiful," "the perfect one." It was a favorite name among Jewish women in the time of Our Blessed Lady. It has always been honored among Catholics, and is one of the names in most general use.
