Instituted by Pope Innocent VI, 1353, for Germany and Bohemia, and since then, by special concession, celebrated in various dioceses, countries and religious orders, but not everywhere on the same day. At present, wherever conceded, its celebration is assigned to the Friday after the first Sunday of Lent.
