Martyr (c.1246-1255), supposed to have been tortured, crowned with thorns, and crucified by the Jews. His martyrdom was the subject of many popular medieval ballads. Miracles were said to have been wrought at Saint Hugh's tomb. Whether there was any truth in the accusation against the Jews, there is now no means of ascertaining. Relics found in a well, brought to the cathedral of Lincoln. Feast, formerly July 27, but has been suppressed.
