Martyr, Prince of the Wends, died Lenzen, Prussia, 1066. After an unchristian military career, inspired by a desire to avenge his murdered father, Gottschalk returned to religious practises. He labored for the conversion of his people, calling in missionaries, and founding monasteries. In the midst of this work some pagan tribes rebelled and Gottschalk was martyred. Feast, June 7,.
