Erected as the Prefecture Apostolic of Cook and Manihiki on November 27, 1922, entrusted to the Congregation of Picpus. Renamed the Prefecture Apostolic of Cook Islands on August 11, 1926. Elevated to the Vicariate Apostolic of Cook Islands on February 12, 1948. Elevated to the diocese of Rarotonga on June 21, 1966, suffragan of Suva, Fiji. See also:
