(1847-1900) Born Mountstuart, Bute, Scotland; died Dumfries House, Ayrshire. In 1868, he was received into the Church, and after settling on his estates in Scotland, lived thenceforth as a devout Catholic, munificent in his benefactions to poor missions and a generous patron of learning. As a scholar, he is best known for his translation of the Roman Breviary into English, in collaboration with the Reverend James McSwiney, S.J.
