(Baithen Mor) Abbot (536-599). Of noble Irish family, he became a disciple of Saint Columba, by whom he was appointed abbot of the monastery founded by Saint Comgall on Tiree island, Scotland. He succeeded Columba as Abbot of Iona in 596 by the wish of the latter. Feast, October 6,.
