One of the fiercest of Bedouin tribes, probably of Arabian origin, living within the borders of Palestine. Instead of showing ordinary humanity to the stragglers of the Israelites when emerging from Egypt, they slew them, and incurred the Israelites' everlasting hatred. To Saul and Samuel their extermination was a religious duty, which David took up and the Simeonites finished.
