Martyr; apostle of Prussia, bishop of Prague, and Archbishop of Gnesen. Born in 939; died in 997. He was twice expelled from the diocese of Prague for his efforts to reform the clergy. Attempting to evangelize the people of Hungary and the Poles, he was killed at the instigation of a pagan priest. He is thought to be the author of a Polish battle-song. Relics at Prague.
