(ohg) The Amorite king of Bashan defeated by the Israelites before they crossed the Jordan (Numbers 21:33-35; Deuteronomy 1:4; Deuteronomy 3:1-13 ). Og is identified as the last member of the Rephaim or giants (Deuteronomy 3:11 ). The term translated “bed” (compare Job 7:13; Amos 3:12 ) is perhaps better rendered “resting place” in the sense of burial place. Some interpreters suggest that this resting place was similar to black basalt sarcophagi found in Trans-jordan.
