A test to determine guilt or innocence of a wife suspected of adultery but who had not been caught in the act (Numbers 5:11-31 ). The ordeal consisted of two parts: a grain offering “of memorial bringing iniquity to remembrance” (Numbers 5:15 ) and the “bitter water that causeth the curse” (Numbers 5:18 ). See Bitter Water .
