Aramaic translation of the Hebrew word, “ben.” Both words mean “son of.” Bar is often used in the New Testament as a prefix for names of men telling whose son they were: Barabbas (Matthew 27:16-26 ), Bar-Jesus (Acts 13:6 ), Bar-Jona (Matthew 16:17 ), Barnabas (Acts 4:36; Acts 9:27; etc.), Barsabas (Acts 1:23; Acts 15:22 ), Bartholomew (Matthew 10:3; Acts 1:13 ), and Bartimaeus (Mark 10:46 ).
