A city in the hill country of Judah, near Hebron, Joshua 15:58 . It was fortified by Rehoboam, 2 Chronicles 11:7 , and assisted in rebuilding Jerusalem, Nehemiah 3:16 . Josephus calls it one of the strongest fortresses in Judea; but its site has not yet been identified.
