Cormorant (Leviticus 11:17; Deuteronomy 14:17), very frequently met with on the coasts, rivers, and lakes of Israel, probably corresponds to the shãlãk (שָׁלָךְ - Strongs: H7994) of the Hebrew, although this name, which means "the plunger", might be applied to some other plunging bird.
