Baboon, a kind of dog-faced, long-haired monkey, dwelling among ruins (gen. Cynocephalus); it was an object of worship for the Egyptians. Some deem it to be the "hairy one" (שָׂעִיר śə‘îr - Strongs: H8163) spoken of in Isaiah 13:21 and 34:14, but it is very doubtful whether it ever existed west of the Euphrates.
Verses:
- Isaiah 13:21
- Isaiah 34:14
