In early 2004 my wife and I were searching for a place to buy in Georgetown, Kentucky. We decided for Georgetown against Stamping Ground (the area close to the church at which I preach) for a number of reasons. One was the absence of houses which we thought would fit our needs in the Stamping Ground area. Another was the price of existing houses in Stamping Ground compared to their condition. The third was location.

Georgetown is close enough to the church that I can be into the area within minutes. The subdivision we settled in is in a growing area of Georgetown that we were told would eventually result in higher property values in a relatively short period of years due to access to shopping, restaurants, etc. The biggest kicker was that the location kept my wife from having to drive an extra fifteen minutes to work which keeps her driving time right around forty-five minutes. Location.

Location was what threw so many people when the United States Golf Association bought the former Russian Tea Room restaurant in Manhatten for its future museum. Why put the museum in a bustling area of one of the world's busiest cities rather than in a pastoral setting which reflects the nature of the game? In short, location. The fact that it was a good buy ($16,000,000) was more important than where it is located. USGA President, Reed Mackenzie intimated that it could be turned over for a tidy profit if need be for a future location more befitting the game.

Location is important in real estate. A so called "good deal" on a property is not such a good deal if the property has no future value or immediate promise. Real estate investors shy away from properties that are overpriced for their locations or are in locations which are not a part of the future growth of the communities in which they are located. Jesus agrees with such logic.

"Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and thieves break in and steal; but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroy and where thieves do not break in and steal." Matthew 6:19, 20 Looking for a good investment property? Take Jesus' advice. After all, location is everything. Location. Location. Location.
