The mirror in our bathroom has an interesting frame. Instead of being framed by something traditional like wood or metal, or not having any frame at all, it is framed by a two inch strip of beveled mirror. It makes for a rather striking appearance adding a nice touch to a room that is traditionally the second most used room in the house.

The other morning while standing near the mirror while dressing, I noticed something rather predictable on my white tee shirt. The narrow strip of beveled mirror frame had refracted the light from the bathroom window and made a rainbow effect on my shoulder. I remembered my grade school lesson on light and Roy G. Biv. There, clearly discernable, were the colors red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo and violet.

That is what makes a rainbow. Light is broken down into its component lights through the water or mist that is present during a shower. The colors are splayed across the horizon in a glorious display of God's genius. All those colors are united in each beam of light that comes from the sun. It never fails. There is never a beam that does not contain the seven colors of the spectrum.

We who are Christians have the light of Christ within us. He is the Holy Spirit. He is our deposit or guarantee that God has invested in us. He is the one who helps us to show Christ to the world. At our new birth into Christ He is given to us. Not just a part of Him but all of Him we need to be what God wants us to be. God has intended us to manifest Christ through certain attributes which the Spirit gives us.

"But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law." Galatians 5:22, 23 In the same way that light contains all the colors, so the presence of the Spirit provides us with all the attributes. Light cannot help but display all its colors under the proper circumstances. Those who have the Spirit of Christ cannot help but show the total spectrum of Christ's attitudes at all times
