Bible Concordances
Choose from the 6 Bible concordances freely available online at StudyLight.org for sermon, Bible study, and Sunday school preparation.
A concordance is an alphabetical list of the principal words used in a book or body of work, with their immediate contexts.
A topical concordance is a list of subjects that a book (usually The Bible) covers, with the immediate context of the coverage of those subjects. Unlike a traditional concordance, the indexed word does not have to appear in the verse. The most well known topical concordance is Nave's Topical Bible.
The first concordance, to the Vulgate Bible, was compiled by Hugh of St Cher (d.1262), who employed 500 monks to assist him. The first concordance to the English bible was published in 1550 by Mr Marbeck, according to Cruden it did not employ the verse numbers devised by Robert Stephens in 1545 but "the pretty large concordance" of Mr Cotton did. Then followed Cruden's Concordance and Strong's Concordance.

Nave's topics were produced by Orville J. Nave while serving as a U.S. Army chaplain after years of "delightful and untiring study of the Word of God." His topics were first published in the early 1900s, and consist of more than 20,000 topics and subtopics and 100,000 references to the Scriptures.
This is a companion to the Scofield Reference Notes. The First Scofield Study Bible, published in 1909 and revised in 1917, is one of the most influential theological works of the early 20th century. The Scofield Reference Bible was published by the Oxford University Press and became known to many as a handbook of fundamental theology.
Drawn from over 30 years of Bible study, Dr. Thompson examined every verse of the Bible to determine their exact meaning. He then arranged topical chains from the verses for easier, more in-depth study.
This Topical Concordance includes over 400 topics and thousands of subtopics, each with references to the scriptures discussing the subject. Many times the scriptures listed are cross references to one another.
The Treasury of Scripture Knowledge has provided a cross-reference resource for Bible students worldwide for generations. This highly respected and nearly exhaustive compilation was developed by R.A. Torrey from references in Thomas Scott's Commentary and the Comprehensive Bible. With nearly 500,000 cross-references it is the most thorough source available.
These topical references are from R. A. Torrey's new topical textbook published by Sword of the Lord Publishers, P.O. Box 1099, Murfreesboro, TN, 37133. The New Topical Textbook was published with 20,000 topics and sub-topics and 30,000 Bible references.
