1 Kings 22:6 — The prophets - i. e., In all probability the prophets attached to the worship of the calves; not real prophets of Yahweh. This seems evident both from Jehoshaphat’s dissatisfaction 1 Kings 22:7, and from the strong antagonism apparent between the true Yahweh-prophet Micaiah, and these self-styled “prophets of the Lord” 1 Kings 22:22-25.The Lord shall deliver it - In the Hebrew the word here used for “Lord” is אדני 'ǎdonāy. Later
2 Kings 10:33 — The loss of the entire trans-Jordanic territory seems to be intended, or at any rate its complete ruin and devastation (compare marginal reference “y”). This was the home of the tribes of Reuben and Gad, and of the half tribe of Manasseh Joshua 22:1-9. It was more accessible from Damascus than the region west of the river.Aroer - There were several places of this name. The one here mentioned is the most famous (compare Deuteronomy 2:36 note).Even Gilead and Bashan - The writer had previously called
Incluso Gilead y Bashan - El escritor había llamado previamente
2 Chronicles 14:1 — Asa his son reigned - If Rehoboam was (1 Kings 12:8 note) not more than 21 years old at his accession, Asa, when he mounted the throne, must have been a mere boy, not more than 10 or 11 years of age.The land was quiet ten years - The great blow struck by Abijah 2 Chronicles 13:15-19, his alliance
Psalms 147:1 — Alabado sea el Señor - Aleluya. Ver Salmo 146:1.
Psalms 149:1 — Praise ye the Lord - Margin, Hallelujah. See the notes at Psalms 146:1.Sing unto the Lord a new song - As if there was a new and a special occasion for praise. This would be so if the psalm was composed on the return from the exile; on the rebuilding of the city; and on the re-dedication of the temple. On the meaning
Psalms 46 overview — los "Hijos de Coré" fueron compuestos posteriormente a la época de David. El título del salmo es: "Para el músico principal, para los Hijos de Coré, una canción sobre Alamoth". En la frase "Para el músico jefe", vea las notas en el título de Salmo 4:1. En la frase "Para los hijos de Coré", vea las notas en el título de Salmo 42:1. La palabra "canción" en el título también aparece en Salmo 30:1. (vea las notas en ese título), y también en los títulos de Salmo 45; Salmo 48:1; Salmo 65:1; Salmo 66;
Psalms 66:10 — The nature of the proof or trial is referred to in the following verses.Thou hast tried us, as silver is tried - That is, by being subjected to appropriate tests to ascertain its real nature, and to remove from it imperfections. Compare the notes at 1 Peter 1:7; notes at Isaiah 1:25; notes at Isaiah 48:10; see also Zechariah 13:9; Malachi 3:3.
Psalms 80:8 — Thou hast brought a vine out of Egypt - Referring to his people, under the image (which often occurs in the Scriptures) of a vine or vineyard. See the notes at Isaiah 5:1-7. Compare Jeremiah 2:21; Ezekiel 15:6; Matthew 20:1; Matthew 21:28, Matthew 21:33; Luke 13:6.Thou hast cast out the heathen - The nations; to wit, the nations that occupied the land of Canaan before the children of Israel dwelt there. See Psalms 2:1,
Matthew 19:11 — - in times of persecution and trial, or for the sake of laboring in the cause of religion without the care and burden of a family. It might be good for many to live, as some of the apostles did, without marriage, but it was not given to all people, 1Co 7:1, 1 Corinthians 7:7,1 Corinthians 7:9. To be married, or unmarried, might be lawful, according to circumstances, 1 Corinthians 7:26.
Ephesians 4:19 — state of a sinner. He has no “feeling,” no emotion. He often gives an intellectual assent to the truth, But it is without emotion of any kind. The heart is insensible as the hard rock.Have given themselves over - They have done it voluntarily. In Romans 1:24, it is said that “God gave them up.” There is no inconsistency. Whatever was the agency of God in it, they preferred it; compare notes on Romans 1:21.Unto lasciviousness - see the notes on Romans 1:24-26.
2 Thessalonians 1:4 — So that we ourselves glory in you in the churches of God - That is, we mention your example to other churches, and glory in it, as an evidence of what the gospel is suited to do; see the notes on 1 Thessalonians 2:19-20; compare the notes on 2 Corinthians 9:2.For your patience - Your patient endurance of trials. And faith - Fidelity, or constancy. You have shown unwavering confidence in God in your afflictions. In all your persecutions and tribulations
2 Timothy 4:22 — The Lord Jesus Christ be with thy spirit; - see Galatians 6:18; Romans 15:20. The subscription to this Epistle was not added by Paul himself, nor is there any evidence that it was by an inspired man, and it is of no authority. There is not the slightest evidence that Timothy was “ordained the first bishop of the
Judges 6:14 — The Lord looked upon him - That gracious look conferred immediate strength (compare Ephesians 6:10; 2 Corinthians 12:9; John 20:22; Acts 3:6) The change of phrase from “the angel of the Lord” to “the Lord” is remarkable. When messages are delivered by the Angel of the Lord, the form of the message is as if God Himself were speaking (compare Judges
1 Samuel 2:35 — Zadok is meant rather than Samuel. The High Priesthood continued in the direct descendants of Zadok as long as the monarchy lasted (see 1 Chronicles 6:8-15).Mine anointed - in its first sense obviously means the kings of Israel and Judah Psalms 89:20; Zechariah 4:14. But doubtless the use of the term MESSIAH (Χριστὸς Christos) here and in 1 Samuel 2:10, is significant, and points to
