Proverbs 21:1 — Rivers of water - See the Psalms 1:3 note. As the cultivator directs the stream into the channels where it is most wanted, so Yahweh directs the thoughts of the true king, that his favors may fall, not at random, but in harmony with a divine order.

Proverbs 21:30-31 — Two companion proverbs. Nothing avails against, nothing without, God. The horse is the type of warlike strength, used chiefly or exclusively in battle. 1Ki 4:26; 1 Kings 10:26-28, may be thought of as having given occasion to the latter of the two proverbs.

Proverbs 8:26 — The highest part of the dust of the world - literally, “the head of the dusts of the world;” an image of either:(1) the dry land, habitable, fit for cultivation, as contrasted with the waters of the chaotic deep; or(2) man himself. Compare Ecclesiastes 3:20.

Ecclesiastes 8:6 — Because, therefore - , Or, as in Ecclesiastes 8:7, “for.”The possibility of God’s time and judgment being in opposition to a king’s purpose or commandment Ecclesiastes 8:5, suggests the thought that such discord is a misery (evil, Ecclesiastes 6:1) common to man (or, mankind).

Jeremiah 15:11 — Shall be well with thy remnant - Or, thy loosing shall be for good; in the sense of being set free, deliverance.To entreat thee well ... - Rather, “to supplicate thee in the time of evil etc.;” fulfilled in Jeremiah 21:1-2; Jeremiah 37:3; Jeremiah 42:2.

Ezekiel 22:1 — The fourth word of judgment Ezekiel 22:1-16. The sins which have brought ruin upon Jerusalem are the sins which disgraced the pagan inhabitants of Canaan, whom the Israelites were to cast out (compare Leviticus 18:0). The commission of like sins would insure like judgment.

Ezekiel 8:1 — The elders of Judah - The prophet’s fellow-exiles are no longer unwilling to hear him Ezekiel 2:1-10. They sat as mourners. The message here is not as in Ezekiel 6:2, but distinctly to Judah, that portion of the people whose exile Ezekiel shared.

Matthew 11:10 — For this is he ... - The passage of Scripture here quoted is found in Malachi 3:1. The substance of it is contained also in Isaiah 40:3.Prepare thy way - That is, to prepare “the people;” to make them ready, by proper instructions, to receive the Messiah.

Matthew 18:25 — His lord commanded him to be sold ... - By the laws of the Hebrews they were permitted to sell debtors, with their wives and children, into servitude for a time sufficient to pay a debt. See 2 Kings 4:1; Leviticus 25:39-46; Amos 8:6.

2 Thessalonians 3:8 — Neither did we eat any man’s bread for nought - We were not supported in idleness at the expense of others. We gave a fair equivalent for all that we received, and, in fact, labored for our own support; see the notes on 1 Thessalonians 2:9.

2 Samuel 5:25 — Geba - Mejor, como en la referencia marginal "Gabaón". Gazer debe ser "Gezer" ( Josué 10:33, etc.); yacía entre el Bethhoron inferior y el mar; en la ruta directa que tomarían los filisteos que huían de Gabaón. Ahora se ha identificado el sitio exacto ( 1 Reyes 9:16).
