1 Kings 2:42 — Did I not make thee to swear - The Septuagint add to 1 Kings 2:37 a clause stating that Solomon “made Shimei swear” on the day when he commanded him to reside at Jerusalem.
1 Kings 8:22 — The margin reference shows that the king was so placed as to be seen by all present, and that, before beginning his prayer, he knelt down upon his knees (compare 1 Kings 8:54).
2 Chronicles 26:16 — To his destruction - Rather, “to do wickedly.” Uzziah appears to have deliberately determined to invade the priest’s office (marginal reference “m”), thus repeating the sin of Korah, Dathan, and Abiram Numbers 16:1-35.
Proverbs 20:10 — See Proverbs 11:1 : Here perhaps, as a companion to Proverbs 20:9, with a wider application to all judging one man by rules which we do not apply to ourselves or to another.
Compare 2 Samuel 15:1.
Ecclesiastes 7:28 — Un hombre - Uno cuyas buenas cualidades satisfacen nuestras expectativas.
Ecclesiastes 9:4 — For to him - Rather: “Yet to him.” Notwithstanding evils, life has its advantage, and especially when compared with death.Dog - To the Hebrews a type of all that was contemptible 1 Samuel 17:43.
Jeremiah 18:2 — Casa - i. e., taller.
Ezekiel 12:2 — Compare Deuteronomy 1:26; margin reference; Romans 10:21. The repetition of such words from age to age, shows that the prophet’s words are intended to reach beyond the generation in which he lived.
Ezekiel 20:1 — The elders of Israel - These were as in Ezekiel 14:1, some of Ezekiel’s fellow-exiles, designated in general terms by the name of Israel, though more properly belonging to the kingdom of Judah.
Deuteronomy 23:2 — A bastard - Probably, a child born of incest or adultery.Even to his tenth generation - i. e. (see the next verse and Nehemiah 13:1), forever. Ten is the number of perfection and completeness.
Mark 1:2-3 — As it is written in the prophets - Mark mentions “prophets” here without specifying which. The places are found in Malachi 3:1, and in Isaiah 41:3. See the notes at Matthew 3:3.
Acts 9:21 — Were amazed - Amazed at his sudden and remarkable change. That destroyed - That opposed; laid waste; persecuted. Compare Galatians 1:13.For that intent - With that design, that he might destroy the church at Damascus.
1 Samuel 14:29 — Hath troubled - The same word as was applied to Achan Joshua 7:25, and gave its name to the valley of Achor. This additional reference to Joshua is remarkable (compare 1 Samuel 14:24).
1 Samuel 17:52 — The men of Israel and Judah - See 1 Samuel 15:4 note.Shaaraim - A town of Judah in the Shephelah (see the marginal reference), at this time probably in the possession of the Philistines.
