Exodus 40:19 The tent-cloth was spread over the tabernacle-cloth, and the covering of skins was put over the tent-cloth. See Exodus 26:1 note.
1 Kings 16:5 The “might” of Baasha is sufficiently indicated by those successes which drove Asa to call Ben-hadad to his aid. 1 Kings 15:17-21.
1 Kings 20:41 He was of the prophets - Josephus and others conjecture that this prophet was Micaiah, the son of Imlah (but compare 1 Kings 20:13 note).
2 Kings 16:8 Compare the marginal reference and 1 Kings 15:18. Political necessity was always held to justify the devotion of the temple treasure to secular purposes.
1 Chronicles 23:1 See the marginal references and notes. 1 Chronicles 23:28-32 give the most complete account in Scripture of the nature of the Levitical office.
2 Chronicles 3:8 The most holy house - i. e., the sanctuary, or holy of holies. On the probable value of the gold, see 1 Kings 10:14 note.
2 Chronicles 4:22 The entry of the house - The text is, by some, corrected by 1 Kings 7:50, “the hinges” of the doors of the house, etc.
2 Chronicles 5:4 The Levites took up the ark - i. e., such of the Levites as were also priests (compare 2 Chronicles 5:7; 1 Kings 8:3).
Ezra 5:2 Began to build - i. e., “made a second beginning” - recommenced the uncompleted work.Helping them - By infusing zeal into the people (see Haggai 1:12).
Proverbs 15:3 The teaching which began with the fear of the Lord Proverbs 1:7 would not be complete without this assertion of His omni-present knowledge.
Proverbs 19:1 The “perverse” man is the rich fool, as contrasted with the poor man who is upright.Proverbs 19:1-2 are missing in the Septuagint.
Proverbs 26:13 Compare the marginal reference note. Here there is greater dramatic vividness in the two words used:(1) A roaring one,(2) a lion, more specifically.
Proverbs 31:4 Some read: “nor for princes to say, Where is strong drink?” The “strong drink” Proverbs 20:1 was distilled from barley, or honey, or dates.
Jeremiah 16:3 The times were such that for “the present distress” it was wise for all to abstain from marriage 1 Corinthians 7:26; Matthew 24:19.

1 Samuel 10:1 Is it not because ... - Samuel answers Saul’s tacit or expressed wonder, by telling him why he did as he did. (Compare 1 Samuel 9:21.)
