Psalms 49:4 — will incline mine ear to a parable - The phrase “I will incline mine ear” means that he would listen or attend to - as we incline our ear toward those whom we are anxious to hear, or in the direction from which a sound seems to come. Compare Psalms 5:1; Psalms 17:1; Psalms 39:12; Isaiah 1:2. On the word rendered “parable” here משׁל mâshâl - see the notes at Isaiah 14:4. Compare Job 13:12, note; Job 27:1, note. The word properly means similitude; then, a sentence, sententious saying, apophthegm;
Isaiah 53:6 — of life.’ The condition of the race without a Redeemer is here elegantly compared to a flock without a shepherd, which wanders where it chooses, and which is exposed to all dangers. This image is not unfrequently used to denote estrangement from God 1 Peter 2:25 : ‘For ye were as sheep going astray, but are now returned to the Shepherd and Bishop of your souls.’ Compare Numbers 27:17; 1 Kings 22:17; Psalms 119:176; Ezekiel 34:5; Zechariah 10:2; Matthew 9:36. Nothing could more strikingly represent
Zephaniah 3:13 — The remnant of Israel - The same poor people, the “true Israel” of whom God said, “I leave over” (the word is the same) “a poor people,” few, compared with the rest who were blinded; of whom the Lord said, “I know whom I have chosen” John 13:18. These “shall not do iniquity nor speak lies.” Cyril: “This is a spiritual adorning, a most beautiful coronet of glorious virtues. For where meekness and humility are and the desire of righteousness, and the tongue unlearns vain words and sinful
Acts 9:3 — of such means cannot be denied. But to this supposition in this case there are some unanswerable objections:It was declared to be the appearance of the Lord Jesus: Acts 9:27, “Barnabas declared unto them how that he had ‘seen the Lord in the way;’” 1 Corinthians 15:8, “And last of all he was seen of me also”; 1 Corinthians 9:1, “Have I not seen Jesus Christ our Lord?” (2)Those who were with Saul saw the light, but did not hear the voice, Acts 22:9. This is incredible on the supposition that it
Romans 12:7 — Or ministry - διακονίαν diakonian. This word properly means service of any kind; Luke 10:40. It is used in religion to denote the service which is rendered to Christ as the Master. It is applied to all classes of ministers in the New Testament, as denoting their being the servants of Christ; and it is used particularly to denote that class
1 Corinthians 1:10 — Now I beseech you, brethren - In this verse the apostle enters on the discussion respecting the irregularities and disorders in the church at Corinth, of which he had incidentally heard; see 1 Corinthians 1:11. The first of which he had incidentally learned, was that which pertained to the divisions and strifes which had arisen in the church. The consideration of this subject occupies him to 1 Corinthians 1:17; and as those divisions had
1 Corinthians 12:10 — To another the working of miracles - Commentators have felt some perplexity in distinguishing this from what is mentioned in 1 Corinthians 12:9, of the gift of healing. it is evident that the apostle there refers to the power of working miracles in healing inveterate and violent diseases. The expression used here, “working of miracles” (ἐνεργήματα δυναμέων energēmata dunameōn)
Ephesians 6:5 — demonstrated that the word here necessarily means “slaves;” though, if slavery existed among those to whom this Epistle was written - as there can be little doubt that it did - it is a word which would apply to those in this condition; compare notes on 1 Corinthians 7:21; Galatians 3:28, note. On the general subject of slavery, and the Scripture doctrine in regard to it; see notes on Isaiah 58:6. Whether the persons here referred to were slaves, or were those who had bound themselves to render a voluntary

The announcement that the object of the book is to record a revelation which the Lord Jesus Christ had made of important events which were shortly to occur, and
Revelation 2:10 — name of the same being - as about to throw them into prison. This would be done undoubtedly by the hands of men, but still Satan was the prime mover, or the instigator in doing it. It was common to cast those who were persecuted into prison. See Acts 12:3-4; Acts 16:23. It is not said on what pretence, or by what authority, this would be done; but, as John had been banished to Patmos from Ephesus, it is probable that this persecution was raging in the adjacent places, and there is no improbability
Y me mostró esa gran ciudad, ... - Mientras descendía del cielo. Vea las notas en Apocalipsis 21:2.
Revelation 5:6 — He was so placed as to seem to be in the midst of the group made up of the throne, the living beings, and the elders. And of the four beasts - See the notes at Revelation 4:6.Stood a Lamb - An appellation often given to the Messiah, for two reasons: (1)Because the lamb was an emblem of innocence and, (2)Because a lamb was offered commonly in sacrifice. Compare the notes on John 1:29.As it had been slain - That is, in some way having the appearance of having been slain; having some marks or indications
