Whole Bible (53)New Testament (19)Individual Books (13)
Introduction
1:3 [when] (b-15) Or omit [when]. Ver. 9 proves this to be probably the true sense.
Verse 5
3:5 death (a-3) The aorist. 'be in the state of having done it.' desire, (b-20) Or 'covetousness;' as Ephesians 4:19 ('greedy unsatisfied lust'), and Ephesians 5:5 ('unbridled lust').
Verse 7
3:7 which (c-2) Or 'among whom.'
Verse 8
3:8 off, (a-4) The aorist. 'be in the state of having done it.'
Verse 10
3:10 new, (d-6) Neos , i.e. young or fresh. see Luke 5:37 , Hebrews 12:24 . renewed (e-7) Renewed -- the present tense -- is from the same root as kainos , as in Romans 12:2 ; 2 Corinthians 4:16 ; Titus 3:5 ; and refers to what is entirely new in contrast to old.
Verse 11
3:11 everything, (f-18) Lit. 'all things,' as 1 Corinthians 15:28 .
Verse 12
3:12 on (a-2) The aorist. 'be in the state of having done it.'
Verse 13
3:13 forgiving (g-5) forgiven (g-21) As Ephesians 4:32 .
Verse 16
3:16 wisdom (h-13) It is a question of spiritual understanding whether 'in all wisdom' relates to 'dwell' or to 'teaching.' It may be the former. Paul taught in all wisdom (ch. 1.28), and in them the word was so to dwell. psalms, (i-20) 'In psalms,' &c., may be connected with 'singing' rather than with what precedes. but in Ephesians 5:19 , 'speaking' is connected with 'psalms.'
Verse 23
3:23 heartily, (k-7) Ek psuches . lit. 'from the soul.'
Verse 24
3:24 serve (a-15) Douleuo , serve as a bondman, see Note, 1 Corinthians 4:1 .
