אַבְנֵט (for בְּנֵט with Aleph prosthet.), with suff. אַבְנֵטְךָ, pl. אַבְנֵטִים m., a belt, or girdle, such as priests wore, Exodus 28:4, 39:40 Leviticus 16:4 and other nobles, Isaiah 22:21 comp. Joseph. Arch. iii. 7, § 2. Ch. פֶּנֶד, פּוּנְדָא, אֲפוּנְדָא a belt. Both words, the Hebrew and the Chaldee, come from the Persic, in which بند (Sanscr. bandha, Germ.
