Oh that my vexation were but weighed, And all my calamity laid in the balances!

How forcible are words of uprightness! But your reproof, what does it reprove?

The eye of him that sees me shall look at me no more; Your eyes shall be on me, but I shall not be.

And why don't you pardon my transgression, and take away my iniquity? For now I shall lie down in the dust; And you will seek me diligently, but I shall not be.

(For we are but of yesterday, and know nothing, Because our days on earth are a shadow);

He shall lean on his house, but it shall not stand: He shall hold fast thereby, but it shall not endure.

Of a truth I know that it is so: But how can common man be just with God?

Look, he goes by me, and I don't see him: He passes on also, but I don't perceive him.

He will not allow me to take my breath, But fills me with bitterness.

But oh that God would speak, And open his lips against you,

But a vain man is void of understanding, Yes, man is born [as] a wild donkey's colt.

But the eyes of the wicked shall fail, And they shall have no way to flee; And their hope shall be the giving up of the ghost.

No doubt but you are the people, And wisdom shall die with you.

But I have understanding as well as you; I am not inferior to you: Yes, who doesn't know such things as these?

But ask now the beasts, and they shall teach you; And the birds of the heavens, and they shall tell you:

But you are forgers of lies; You are all physicians of no value.

But [noble] man dies, and is laid low: Yes, man gives up the ghost, and where is he?

But now you number my steps: Do you not watch over my sin?

But the mountain falling comes to nothing; And the rock is removed out of its place;

His sons come to honor, and he does not know it; And they are brought low, but he doesn't perceive it of them.
