For if I do this of my own will, I have a reward: but if not of my own will, I have a stewardship entrusted to me.

For though I was free from all [men,] I became a slave to all, that I might gain the more.

And I do all things for the gospel's sake, that I may be a joint partaker thereof.

For I would not, brothers, have you ignorant, that our fathers were all under the cloud, and all passed through the sea;

and all drank the same spiritual drink: for they drank of a spiritual rock that followed them: and the rock was Christ.

Nevertheless with most of them God was not well pleased: for they were overthrown in the wilderness.

Now these things happened to them by way of example; and they were written for our admonition, on whom the ends of the ages have come.

seeing that we, who are many, are one bread, one body: for we all partake of the one bread.

Whatever is sold in the shambles, eat, asking no question for conscience' sake,

for the earth is the Lord's, and the fullness thereof.

If one of those that do not believe bids you [to a feast], and you are disposed to go; whatever is set before you, eat, asking no question for conscience' sake.

But if any man says to you, This has been offered in sacrifice, don't eat, for his sake that showed it, and for conscience sake:

conscience, I say, not your own, but the other's; for why is my liberty judged by another conscience?

If I partake with thankfulness, why am I evil spoken of for that for which I give thanks?

But every woman praying or prophesying with her head unveiled dishonors her head; for it is one and the same thing as if she were shaven.

For if a woman is not veiled, let her also be shorn: but if it is a shame to a woman to be shorn or shaven, let her be veiled.

For a man indeed ought not to have his head veiled, since he is the image and glory of God: but the woman is the glory of the man.

For the man is not of the woman; but the woman of the man:

for neither was the man created for the woman; but the woman for the man:

for this cause ought the woman to have [a sign of] authority on her head, because of the angels.
