And a stranger they will not follow, but will flee from him: for they don't know the voice of strangers.

I am the good shepherd: the good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep.

[he flees] because he is a hired worker, and does not care for the sheep.

even as the Father knows me, and I know the Father; and I lay down my life for the sheep.

Jesus answered them, Many good works I have shown you from the Father; for which of those works do you stone me?

The Jews answered him, For a good work we don't stone you, but for blasphemy; and because you, being a man, make yourself God.

But when Jesus heard it, he said, This sickness is not to death, but for the glory of God, that the Son of God may be glorified thereby.

And I am glad for your sakes that I was not there, to the intent you may believe; nevertheless let us go to him.

Jesus says, Take away the stone. Martha, the sister of him that was dead, says to him, Lord, by this time the body decays; for he has been [dead] four days.

nor do you take account that it is expedient for you that one man should die for the people, and that the whole nation not perish.

Now this he did not say of himself: but, being high priest that year, he prophesied that Jesus should die for the nation;

and not for the nation only, but that he might also gather together into one the children of God that are scattered abroad.

They sought therefore for Jesus, and spoke one with another, as they stood in the temple, What do you think? That he will not come to the feast?

Why wasn't this ointment sold for $30,000, and given to the poor?

Now this he said, not because he cared for the poor; but because he was a thief, and having the bag took away what was put therein.

For the poor you always have with you; but me you do not always have.

The large crowd therefore of the Jews learned that he was there: and they came, not for Jesus' sake only, but that they might see Lazarus also, whom he had raised from the dead.

For this cause also the multitude went and met him, for that they heard that he had done this sign.

Now is my soul troubled; and what shall I say? Father, save me from this hour. But for this cause I came to this hour.

Jesus answered and said, This voice has not come for my sake, but for your sakes.
