So after they had assembled, Pilate said to them, "Whom do you want me to release for you—Jesus Barabbas or Jesus who is called Christ?"

(For he knew that they had handed him over because of envy.

And while he was sitting on the judgment seat, his wife sent a message to him, saying, "Have nothing to do with that righteous man, for I have suffered much as a result of a dream today because of him.")

But the chief priests and the elders persuaded the crowds that they should ask for Barabbas and put Jesus to death.

So the governor answered and said to them, "Which of the two do you want me to release for you?" And they said, "Barabbas!"

Then he released Barabbas for them, but after he had Jesus flogged, he handed him over so that he could be crucified.

This man approached Pilate and asked for the body of Jesus. Then Pilate ordered it to be given to him.

And behold, there was a great earthquake, for an angel of the Lord descended from heaven and came up and rolled away the stone and sat down on it.

But the angel answered and said to the women, "Do not be afraid, for I know that you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified.

He is not here, for he has been raised, just as he said. Come, see the place where he was lying.

So the eleven disciples proceeded to Galilee, to the mountain which Jesus had designated for them.

John was there baptizing in the wilderness, proclaiming a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins.

And as he was passing by along the Sea of Galilee, he saw Simon and Andrew, Simon's brother, casting a net into the sea (for they were fishermen).

And Simon and those who were with him searched diligently for him.

And they found him and said to him, "Everyone is looking for you!"

And he said to them, "Let us go elsewhere, into the neighboring rural towns, so that I can preach there also, because I have come out for this very reason."

And he said to him, "See to it that you say nothing to anyone, but go, show yourself to the priest and bring for your cleansing the things which Moses commanded, for a testimony to them.

And it happened that he was dining in his house, and many tax collectors and sinners were dining with Jesus and his disciples, for there were many and they were following him.

And he said to them, "The Sabbath was established for people, and not people for the Sabbath.
