John replied to all of them, "I am baptizing you within">[fn] water, but the one who is stronger than I am is coming, and I am not worthy to untie his sandal straps. It is he who will baptize you within">[fn] the Holy Spirit and fire.Matthew 3:11;">[xr]

But he said to them, "I have to proclaim the good news about the kingdom of God in the other cities also, for that is what I was sent to do."

He saw two boats lying on the shore, but the fishermen had stepped out of them and were washing their nets.

Simon answered, "Master, we have worked hard all night and caught nothing. But if you say so, I'll lower the nets."

The scribes and the Pharisees began to argue among themselves, saying, "Who is this man who is uttering blasphemies? Who can forgive sins but God alone?"Psalm 32:5; Isaiah 43:25; Matthew 9:3; Mark 2:6-7;">[xr]

But I want you to knowSo that you will know">[fn] that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins." Then he said to the paralyzed man, "I say to you: Get up, pick up your stretcher, and go home!"

But Jesus answered them, "Healthy people don't need a physician, but sick people do.

I have not come to call righteous people, but sinners, to repentance."Matthew 9:13; 1 Timothy 1:15;">[xr]

Then they said to him, "John's disciples frequently fast and pray, and so do those of the Pharisees. But your disciplesyours">[fn] keep right on eating and drinking."Matthew 9:14; Mark 2:18;">[xr]

But Jesus said to them, "You can't force the wedding guests to fast while the groom is still with them, can you?

But the days will come when the groom will be taken away from them, and in those days they will fast."
