Then they *led Jesus from Caiaphas into the Praetorium, and it was early; and they themselves did not enter into the Praetorium so that they would not be defiled, but might eat the Passover.

Jesus answered, "My kingdom is not of this world. If My kingdom were of this world, then My servants would be fighting so that I would not be delivered over to the Jews; but as it is, My kingdom is not from here."

But you have a custom that I release someone for you at the Passover; do you wish then that I release for you the King of the Jews?"

So they cried out again, saying, "Not this man, but Barabbas." Now Barabbas was a robber.

and he entered into the Praetorium again and *said to Jesus, "Where are You from?" But Jesus gave him no answer.

As a result of this Pilate kept seeking to release Him, but the Jews cried out saying, "If you release this man, you are no friend of Caesar; everyone who makes himself to be a king opposes Caesar."

Therefore when Pilate heard these words, he brought Jesus out, and sat down on the judgment seat at a place called The Stone Pavement, but in Hebrew, Gabbatha.

So they cried out, "Away with Him! Away with Him! Crucify Him!" Pilate *said to them, "Shall I crucify your King?" The chief priests answered, "We have no king but Caesar."

So the chief priests of the Jews were saying to Pilate, "Do not write, ‘The King of the Jews;' but that He said, ‘I am King of the Jews.'"

So they said to one another, "Let us not tear it, but cast lots for it, to decide whose it shall be;" this was in order that the Scripture would be fulfilled: "They divided My garments among them, and for My clothing they cast lots."

Therefore the soldiers did these things. But standing by the cross of Jesus were His mother, and His mother's sister, Mary the wife of Clopas, and Mary Magdalene.

but coming to Jesus, when they saw that He was already dead, they did not break His legs.

But one of the soldiers pierced His side with a spear, and immediately blood and water came out.

Now after these things Joseph of Arimathea, being a disciple of Jesus, but secretly because of his fear of the Jews, asked Pilate that he might take away the body of Jesus; and Pilate granted permission. So he came and took away His body.

and stooping and looking in, he *saw the linen wrappings lying there; but he did not go in.

and the face-cloth which had been on His head, not lying with the linen wrappings, but folded up in a place by itself.

But Mary was standing outside the tomb crying; and so, as she was crying, she stooped to look into the tomb;

Jesus *said to her, "Stop clinging to Me, for I have not yet ascended to the Father; but go to My brothers and say to them, ‘I ascend to My Father and your Father, and My God and your God.'"

But Thomas, one of the twelve, called Didymus, was not with them when Jesus came.

So the other disciples were saying to him, "We have seen the Lord!" But he said to them, "Unless I see in His hands the imprint of the nails, and put my finger into the place of the nails, and put my hand into His side, I will not believe."
