And forty days were fulfilled for him; for so are fulfilled the days of embalming: and the Egyptians wept for him 70 days.

And when the days of weeping for him were past, Joseph spoke to the house of Pharaoh, saying, If now I have found favor in your eyes, speak, I pray you, in the ears of Pharaoh, saying,

My father made me swear, saying, Look, I die: in my grave which I have dug for me in the land of Canaan, there you shall bury me. Now therefore let me go up, I pray you, and bury my father, and I will come again.

And they came to the threshing-floor of Atad, which is beyond the Jordan, and there they lamented with a very great and intense lamentation: and he made a mourning for his father seven days.

And Joseph said to them, Don't be afraid: for am I in the place of God?

And as for you, you meant evil against me; but God meant it for good, to bring to pass, as it is this day, to save many people alive.

Therefore they set over them slave masters to afflict them with their burdens. And they built for Pharaoh store-cities, Pithom and Raamses.

And the king of Egypt called for the midwives, and said to them, Why have you done this thing, and have saved the men-children alive?

And the midwives said to Pharaoh, Because the Hebrew women are not as the Egyptian women; for they are lively, and are delivered before the midwife comes to them.

And when she could not longer hide him, she took for him an ark of bulrushes, and daubed it with slime and with pitch; and she put the child therein, and laid it in the flags by the river's brink.

Then his sister said to Pharaoh's daughter, Shall I go and call you a nurse of the Hebrew women, that she may nurse the child for you?

And Pharaoh's daughter said to her, Take this child away, and nurse it for me, and I will give you your wages. And the woman took the child, and nursed it.

And they said, An Egyptian delivered us out of the hand of the shepherds, and moreover he drew water for us, and watered the flock.

And she bore a son, and he named him Gershom; for he said, I have been a sojourner in a foreign land.

And he said, Don't come any closer: take off your shoes from your feet, for the place whereon you stand is holy ground.

Moreover he said, I am the God of your father, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob. And Moses hid his face; for he was afraid to look at God.

And Yahweh said, I have surely seen the affliction of my people that are in Egypt, and have heard their cry by reason of their taskmasters; for I know their sorrows;

And Moses answered and said, But, look, they will not believe me, nor listen to my voice; for they will say, Yahweh has not appeared to you.
