Then he began to teach them that the Son of Man would have to suffer a great deal and be rejected by the elders, the high priests, and the scribes. Then he would be killed, but after three days he would rise again.Matthew 16:21; 17:22; Luke 9:22;">[xr]

But turning and looking at his disciples, Jesushe">[fn] rebuked Peter, saying, "Get behind me, Satan! For you are not thinking God's thoughts but human thoughts!"

For whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake and for the gospel will save it.John 12:25;">[xr]

Suddenly, as they looked around, they saw no one with them but Jesus alone.

They kept the matter to themselves but argued about what "rising from the dead" meant.

But I tell you that Elijah has come, yet peoplethey">[fn] treated him just as they pleased, as it is written about him."Matthew 11:14; 17:12; Luke 1:17;">[xr]

Whenever it brings on a seizure, it throws him to the ground. Then he foams at the mouth, grinds his teeth, and becomes stiff. So I asked your disciples to drive the spiritit">[fn] out, but they didn't have the power."

The spiritIt">[fn] has often thrown him into fire and into water to destroy him. But if you are able to do anything, have pity on us and help us!"

But Jesus took his hand and helped him up, and he stood up.

for he was teaching his disciples and saying to them, "The Son of Man will be betrayed into human hands. They will kill him, but after being dead for three days he will be raised."Matthew 17:22; Luke 9:44;">[xr]

But they kept silent, for on the road they had argued with one another about who was the greatest.

"Whoever welcomes a child like this in my name welcomes me, and whoever welcomes me welcomes not me but the one who sent me."Matthew 10:40; Luke 9:48;">[xr]

But Jesus said, "Don't stop him! For no one who works a miracle in my name can slander me soon afterwards.1 Corinthians 12:3;">[xr]

But Jesus said to them, "It was because of your hardness of heart that he wrote this command for you.
