And the king of Assyria found conspiracy in Hoshea; for he had sent messengers to So king of Egypt, and offered no tribute to the king of Assyria, as he had done year by year: therefore the king of Assyria shut him up, and bound him in prison.

For he rent Israel from the house of David; and they made Jeroboam the son of Nebat king: and Jeroboam drove Israel from following Yahweh, and made them sin a great sin.

So they feared Yahweh, and made to them from among themselves priests of the high places, who sacrificed for them in the houses of the high places.

and the statutes and the ordinances, and the law and the commandment, which he wrote for you, you shall observe to do for evermore; and you shall not fear other gods:

He removed the high places, and broke the pillars, and cut down the Asherah: and he broke in pieces the bronze serpent that Moses had made; for in those days the sons of Israel burned incense to it; and he called it Nehushtan.

For he cleaved to Yahweh; he did not depart from following him, but kept his commandments, which Yahweh commanded Moses.

You say (but they are but vain words), [There is] counsel and strength for the war. Now on whom do you trust, that you have rebelled against me?

How then can you turn away the face of one captain of the least of my master's slaves, and put your trust on Egypt for chariots and for horsemen?

But the people held their peace, and did not answer him a word; for the king's commandment was, saying, Don't answer him.

And they said to him, Thus says Hezekiah, This day is a day of trouble, and of rebuke, and of disgrace; for the children have come to the birth, and there is not strength to bring forth.

It may be Yahweh your God will hear all the words of Rabshakeh, whom the king of Assyria his master has sent to defy the living God, and will rebuke the words which Yahweh your God has heard: therefore lift up your prayer for the remnant that is left.

So Rabshakeh returned, and found the king of Assyria warring against Libnah; for he had heard that he had departed from Lachish.

and have cast their gods into the fire; for they were no gods, but the work of man's hands, wood and stone; therefore they have destroyed them.

For out of Jerusalem shall go forth a remnant, and out of mount Zion those that shall escape: the zeal of Yahweh shall perform this.

For I will defend this city to save it, for my own sake, and for my slave David's sake.

In those days Hezekiah was sick to death. And Isaiah the prophet the son of Amoz came to him, and said to him, Thus says Yahweh, Set your house in order: for you shall die, and not live.
