Contextual Overview

13So Solomon went from the high place at Gibeon, from the Tent of Meeting, to Jerusalem. And he reigned over Israel.14Solomon acquired chariots and horsemen; he had 1,400 chariots and 12,000 horsemen, and he stationed them in the cities [suited for the use] of chariots and with the king at Jerusalem. 15The king made silver and gold as plentiful and common in Jerusalem as stones, and he made cedar as plentiful as the sycamore-fig trees in the lowland. 16Solomon's horses were imported from Egypt and from Kue. The king's merchants purchased them [in large numbers] from Kue at a price. 17And they imported chariots from Egypt for 600 shekels of silver apiece, and horses for 150 apiece; and in the same way they exported horses to all the kings of the Hittites and the kings of the Arameans (Syrians).

Gill's Notes on the Bible

Then Solomon came from his journey to the high place that was at Gibeon,.... Or rather without the supplement, the words may be read as in the Septuagint and Vulgate Latin versions,

Solomon came from the high places; having sacrificed there, so Vatablus; ืœ being put for ืž, as R. Jonah observes b; but the Targum agrees with us, he

"came to the high place which is in Gibeon, and from thence to Jerusalem;''

and to the same purpose Kimchi; having been there, he came to Jerusalem:

from before the tabernacle of the congregation; which was at Gibeon, where he had been sacrificing:

and reigned over Israel in great splendour and prosperity. From hence, to the end of the chapter, the same things are said as in

1 Kings 10:26.

1 Kings 10:26- : 1 Kings 10:26- : 1 Kings 10:26- : 1 Kings 10:26- :

b Apud Kimchium. in loc.

From his journey - These words are not in the original text, which is thought to be corrupt. It is best to correct the text, and then simply to translate: โ€œAnd Solomon came from the high place that was at Gibeon to Jerusalem.โ€
