So they got up and were counted off-twelve for Benjamin and Ish-bosheth son of Saul, and twelve for David.

So Abner told him, "Turn to your right or to your left, seize one of the young men, and take his equipment for yourself." But Asahel would not stop chasing him.

May God punish Abner, and ever so severely, if I do not do for David as the LORD has sworn to him,

And for fear of Abner, Ish-bosheth did not dare to say another word to him.

Then David sent messengers to say to Ish-bosheth son of Saul, "Give me back my wife, Michal, whom I betrothed to myself for a hundred Philistine foreskins."

When Abner and twenty of his men came to David at Hebron, David held a feast for them.

And the king sang this lament for Abner: "Should Abner die the death of a fool?

And I am weak this day, though anointed as king, and these men, the sons of Zeruiah, are too fierce for me. May the LORD repay the evildoer according to his evil!"

when someone told me, 'Look, Saul is dead' and thought he was a bearer of good news, I seized him and put him to death at Ziklag. That was his reward for his news!

King Hiram of Tyre sent envoys to David, along with cedar logs, carpenters, and stonemasons, and they built a palace for David.

And David realized that the LORD had established him as king over Israel and had exalted his kingdom for the sake of His people Israel.

So David inquired of the LORD, "Should I go up against the Philistines? Will You deliver them into my hand?" "Go," replied the LORD, "for I will surely deliver the Philistines into your hand."

And he and all his troops set out for Baale of Judah to bring up from there the ark of God, which is called by the Name, the name of the LORD of Hosts who is enthroned between the cherubim that are on it.

And the anger of the LORD burned against Uzzah, and God struck him down on the spot for his irreverence, and he died there beside the ark of God.

Thus the ark of the LORD remained in the house of Obed-edom the Gittite for three months, and the LORD blessed him and all his household.

So they brought the ark of the LORD and set it in its place inside the tent that David had pitched for it. Then David offered burnt offerings and peace offerings before the LORD.

Then he distributed to all the multitude of Israel, both men and women, a loaf of bread, a date cake, and a raisin cake. And all the people departed, each for his own home.

And Nathan replied to the king, "Go and do all that is in your heart, for the LORD is with you."
