For thus says the LORD: David shall never want a man to sit on the throne of the house of Yisra'el;

then will I also cast away the seed of Ya`akov, and of David my servant, so that I will not take of his seed to be rulers over the seed of Avraham, Yitzchak, and Ya`akov: for I will cause their captivity to return, and will have mercy on them.

you shall die in shalom; and with the burnings of your fathers, the former kings who were before you, so shall they make a burning for you; and they shall lament you, [saying], Ah Lord! for I have spoken the word, says the LORD.

when the king of Bavel's army was fighting against Yerushalayim, and against all the cities of Yehudah that were left, against Lakhish and against `Azeka; for these [alone] remained of the cities of Yehudah [as] fortified cities.

but afterwards they turned, and caused the servants and the handmaids, whom they had let go free, to return, and brought them into subjection for servants and for handmaids.

but you turned and profaned my name, and caused every man his servant, and every man his handmaid, whom you had let go free at their pleasure, to return; and you brought them into subjection, to be to you for servants and for handmaids.

I will even give them into the hand of their enemies, and into the hand of those who seek their life; and their dead bodies shall be for food to the birds of the sky, and to the animals of the eretz.

But they said, We will drink no wine; for Yehonadav the son of Rechav, our father, commanded us, saying, You shall drink no wine, neither you, nor your sons, forever:

nor to build houses for us to dwell in; neither have we vineyard, nor field, nor seed:

But it happened, when Nevukhadretztzar king of Bavel came up into the land, that we said, Come, and let us go to Yerushalayim for fear of the army of the Kasdim, and for fear of the army of the Aram; so we dwell at Yerushalayim.

The words of Yehonadav the son of Rechav, that he commanded his sons, not to drink wine, are performed; and to this day they drink none, for they obey their father's mitzvah: but I have spoken to you, rising up early and speaking; and you have not listened to me.

It may be they will present their supplication before the LORD, and will return everyone from his evil way; for great is the anger and the wrath that the LORD has pronounced against this people.

I will punish him and his seed and his servants for their iniquity; and I will bring on them, and on the inhabitants of Yerushalayim, and on the men of Yehudah, all the evil that I have pronounced against them, but they didn't listen.

Tzidkiyahu the king sent Yehukhal the son of Shelemyahu, and Tzefanyah the son of Ma`aseyah, the Kohen, to the prophet Yirmeyahu, saying, Pray now to the LORD our God for us.

Now Yirmeyahu came in and went out among the people; for they had not put him into prison.

Thus says the LORD, Don't deceive yourselves, saying, The Kasdim shall surely depart from us; for they shall not depart.

For though you had struck the whole army of the Kasdim who fight against you, and there remained but wounded men among them, yes would they rise up every man in his tent, and burn this city with fire.

It happened that, when the army of the Kasdim was broken up from Yerushalayim for fear of Par`oh's army,

The princes were angry with Yirmeyahu, and struck him, and put him in prison in the house of Yonatan the Sofer; for they had made that the prison.

Thus says the LORD, He who remains in this city shall die by the sword, by the famine, and by the pestilence; but he who goes forth to the Kasdim shall live, and his life shall be to him for a prey, and he shall live.
