For we were saved in this hope, but hope that is seen is not hope; for why does one still hope for what he sees?

But if we hope for what we do not see, we eagerly wait for it with perseverance.

Likewise the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us [fn] with groanings which cannot be uttered.

He who did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him up for us all, how shall He not with Him also freely give us all things?

Genesis 25:19-23">[xr] But it is not that the word of God has taken no effect. For they are not all Israel who are of Israel,

nor are they all children because they are the seed of Abraham; but, "In Isaac your seed shall be called." Genesis 21:12">[fn]

That is, those who are the children of the flesh, these are not the children of God; but the children of the promise are counted as the seed.

And not only this, but when Rebecca also had conceived by one man, even by our father Isaac

(for the children not yet being born, nor having done any good or evil, that the purpose of God according to election might stand, not of works but of Him who calls),

As it is written, "Jacob I have loved, but Esau I have hated." Malachi 1:2, 3">[fn]

So then it is not of him who wills, nor of him who runs, but of God who shows mercy.

But indeed, O man, who are you to reply against God? Will the thing formed say to him who formed it, "Why have you made me like this?"

even us whom He called, not of the Jews only, but also of the Gentiles?

but Israel, pursuing the law of righteousness, has not attained to the law of righteousness. [fn]

Why? Because they did not seek it by faith, but as it were, by the works of the law. [fn] For they stumbled at that stumbling stone.

For I bear them witness that they have a zeal for God, but not according to knowledge.

But the righteousness of faith speaks in this way, "Do not say in your heart, 'Who will ascend into heaven?' " Deuteronomy 30:12">[fn] (that is, to bring Christ down from above)

But what does it say? "The word is near you, in your mouth and in your heart" Deuteronomy 30:14">[fn] (that is, the word of faith which we preach):

But they have not all obeyed the gospel. For Isaiah says, "Lord, who has believed our report?" Isaiah 53:1">[fn]

But I say, have they not heard? Yes indeed:"Their sound has gone out to all the earth,And their words to the ends of the world." Psalms 19:4 ">[fn]
