he sent them a prophet, who said, "This is what the Lord , the God of Israel, says: I brought you up out of Egypt, out of the land of slavery.

Now a man of God came to Eli and said to him, "This is what the Lord says: ‘Did I not clearly reveal myself to your ancestor's family when they were in Egypt under Pharaoh?

and said to them, "This is what the Lord , the God of Israel, says: ‘I brought Israel up out of Egypt, and I delivered you from the power of Egypt and all the kingdoms that oppressed you.'

This is what the Lord Almighty says: ‘I will punish the Amalekites for what they did to Israel when they waylaid them as they came up from Egypt.

"Go and tell my servant David, ‘This is what the Lord says: Are you the one to build me a house to dwell in?

"Now then, tell my servant David, ‘This is what the Lord Almighty says: I took you from the pasture, from tending the flock, and appointed you ruler over my people Israel.

Then Nathan said to David, "You are the man! This is what the Lord , the God of Israel, says: ‘I anointed you king over Israel, and I delivered you from the hand of Saul.

"This is what the Lord says: ‘Out of your own household I am going to bring calamity on you. Before your very eyes I will take your wives and give them to one who is close to you, and he will sleep with your wives in broad daylight.

"And now your servant says, ‘May the word of my lord the king secure my inheritance, for my lord the king is like an angel of God in discerning good and evil. May the Lord your God be with you.'"

The king asked, "Isn't the hand of Joab with you in all this?" The woman answered, "As surely as you live, my lord the king, no one can turn to the right or to the left from anything my lord the king says. Yes, it was your servant Joab who instructed me to do this and who put all these words into the mouth of your servant.

"Go and tell David, ‘This is what the Lord says: I am giving you three options. Choose one of them for me to carry out against you.'"

So Benaiah entered the tent of the Lord and said to Joab, "The king says, ‘Come out!'" But he answered, "No, I will die here." Benaiah reported to the king, "This is how Joab answered me."

Then he said to Jeroboam, "Take ten pieces for yourself, for this is what the Lord , the God of Israel, says: ‘See, I am going to tear the kingdom out of Solomon's hand and give you ten tribes.

‘This is what the Lord says: Do not go up to fight against your brothers, the Israelites. Go home, every one of you, for this is my doing.'" So they obeyed the word of the Lord and went home again, as the Lord had ordered.

By the word of the Lord he cried out against the altar: "Altar, altar! This is what the Lord says: ‘A son named Josiah will be born to the house of David. On you he will sacrifice the priests of the high places who make offerings here, and human bones will be burned on you.'"

He cried out to the man of God who had come from Judah, "This is what the Lord says: ‘You have defied the word of the Lord and have not kept the command the Lord your God gave you.

Go, tell Jeroboam that this is what the Lord , the God of Israel, says: ‘I raised you up from among the people and appointed you ruler over my people Israel.

For this is what the Lord , the God of Israel, says: ‘The jar of flour will not be used up and the jug of oil will not run dry until the day the Lord sends rain on the land.'"

Meanwhile a prophet came to Ahab king of Israel and announced, "This is what the Lord says: ‘Do you see this vast army? I will give it into your hand today, and then you will know that I am the Lord .'"

"But who will do this?" asked Ahab. The prophet replied, "This is what the Lord says: ‘The junior officers under the provincial commanders will do it.'" "And who will start the battle?" he asked. The prophet answered, "You will."
