I pursued my enemies^(cb) and overtook them; I did not turn back till they were destroyed.

I crushed them^(cc) so that they could not rise;^(cd) they fell beneath my feet.^(ce)

You armed me with strength^(cf) for battle; you humbled my adversaries^(cg) before me.

You made my enemies turn their backs^(ch) in flight, and I destroyed^(ci) my foes.

They cried for help, but there was no one to save them^(cj)— to the Lord , but he did not answer.^(ck)

I beat them as fine as windblown dust;^(cl) I trampled them^[f] like mud in the streets.

You have delivered me from the attacks of the people; you have made me the head of nations.^(cm) People I did not know^(cn) now serve me,

foreigners^(co) cower before me; as soon as they hear of me, they obey me.

They all lose heart;^(cp) they come trembling^(cq) from their strongholds.^(cr)

The Lord lives!^(cs) Praise be to my Rock!^(ct) Exalted be God^(cu) my Savior!^(cv)

He is the God who avenges^(cw) me, who subdues nations^(cx) under me,

who saves^(cy) me from my enemies.^(cz) You exalted me above my foes; from a violent man^(da) you rescued me.

Therefore I will praise you, Lord , among the nations;^(db) I will sing^(dc) the praises of your name.^(dd)

He gives his king great victories; he shows unfailing love to his anointed,^(de) to David^(df) and to his descendants forever.^(dg)

The heavens^(a) declare^(b) the glory of God;^(c) the skies^(d) proclaim the work of his hands.^(e)

Day after day they pour forth speech; night after night they reveal knowledge.^(f)

They have no speech, they use no words; no sound is heard from them.

Yet their voice^[b] goes out into all the earth, their words to the ends of the world.^(g) In the heavens God has pitched a tent^(h) for the sun.⁽ⁱ⁾

It is like a bridegroom^(j) coming out of his chamber,^(k) like a champion^(l) rejoicing to run his course.

It rises at one end of the heavens^(m) and makes its circuit to the other;⁽ⁿ⁾ nothing is deprived of its warmth.

The law of the Lord ^(o) is perfect,^(p) refreshing the soul.^(q) The statutes of the Lord are trustworthy,^(r) making wise the simple.^(s)

The precepts of the Lord are right,^(t) giving joy^(u) to the heart. The commands of the Lord are radiant, giving light to the eyes.^(v)

The fear of the Lord ^(w) is pure, enduring forever. The decrees of the Lord are firm, and all of them are righteous.^(x)

They are more precious than gold,^(y) than much pure gold; they are sweeter than honey,^(z) than honey from the honeycomb.^(aa)

By them your servant is warned; in keeping them there is great reward.

But who can discern their own errors? Forgive my hidden faults.^(ab)

Keep your servant also from willful sins;^(ac) may they not rule over me.^(ad) Then I will be blameless,^(ae) innocent of great transgression.

May these words of my mouth and this meditation of my heart be pleasing^(af) in your sight, Lord , my Rock^(ag) and my Redeemer.^(ah)

May the Lord answer you when you are in distress;^(a) may the name of the God of Jacob^(b) protect you.^(c)

May he send you help^(d) from the sanctuary^(e) and grant you support^(f) from Zion.^(g)

May he remember^(h) all your sacrifices and accept your burnt offerings.^[b](i)

May he give you the desire of your heart^(j) and make all your plans succeed.^(k)

May we shout for joy^(l) over your victory and lift up our banners^(m) in the name of our God. May the Lord grant all your requests.⁽ⁿ⁾

Now this I know: The Lord gives victory to his anointed.^(o) He answers him from his heavenly sanctuary with the victorious power of his right hand.^(p)

Some trust in chariots^(q) and some in horses,^(r) but we trust in the name of the Lord our God.^(s)

They are brought to their knees and fall,^(t) but we rise up^(u) and stand firm.^(v)

Lord , give victory to the king! Answer us^(w) when we call!

The king rejoices in your strength, Lord .^(a) How great is his joy in the victories you give!^(b)

You have granted him his heart's desire^(c) and have not withheld the request of his lips.^[b]

You came to greet him with rich blessings and placed a crown of pure gold^(d) on his head.^(e)

He asked you for life, and you gave it to him— length of days, for ever and ever.^(f)

Through the victories^(g) you gave, his glory is great; you have bestowed on him splendor and majesty.^(h)

Surely you have granted him unending blessings and made him glad with the joy⁽ⁱ⁾ of your presence.^(j)

For the king trusts in the Lord ;^(k) through the unfailing love^(l) of the Most High^(m) he will not be shaken.⁽ⁿ⁾

Your hand will lay hold^(o) on all your enemies; your right hand will seize your foes.

When you appear for battle, you will burn them up as in a blazing furnace. The Lord will swallow them up in his wrath, and his fire will consume them.^(p)

You will destroy their descendants from the earth, their posterity from mankind.^(q)

Though they plot evil^(r) against you and devise wicked schemes,^(s) they cannot succeed.

You will make them turn their backs^(t) when you aim at them with drawn bow.

Be exalted^(u) in your strength, Lord ;^(v) we will sing and praise your might.
