(Heb. Tsippor', צַפּוֹר [briefly צַפֹּר, Numbers 22:10; Numbers 23:18], sparrow [comp. Zipporah]; Sept. Σεπφώρ; Vulg. Sephor), father of Balak, king of Moab, who is always designated by this patronymic title (22, 2, 4, 10, 16; 23:18; Joshua 24:9 Judges 11:25). B.C. ante 1618. He is possibly the king referred to in Numbers 21:26. (See BALAK); (See MOAB).
