is rendered "to try" in the AV in 1 Corinthians 3:13; 1 Thessalonians 2:4; 1 Peter 1:7; 1 John 4:1 : see PROVE , No. 1.

is rendered "to try" in Hebrews 11:17; Revelation 2:2,10; 3:10 . In Acts 16:7 it is rendered "assayed;" in Acts 24:6 , RV, "assayed" (AV, "hath gone about"): see GO , Note (2) (b). See EXAMINE , PROVE , TEMPT. Cp. peirao in Acts 26:21 , RV, "assayed" (AV, "went about"); see GO , Note (2) (c).

Notes: (1) In Revelation 3:18 , AV, puroo, in the Passive Voice, "to be purified by fire" (RV, "refined"), is rendered "tried." (2) For dokimion, James 1:3 , AV, "trying," see PROOF.
