(sshee' mah) Personal name meaning, “a hearing” and place name perhaps meaning, “hyena.” 1. Son of Hebron and grandson of Caleb (1 Chronicles 2:43 ). 2 . Member and clan ancestor of tribe of Reuben (1 Chronicles 5:8 ); possibly the same as Shemaiah (1 Chronicles 5:4 ). 3 . Benjaminite clan leader in Aijalon (1 Chronicles 8:13 ); apparently the same as Shimhi (1 Chronicles 8:21 ). 4 . Man who helped Ezra teach the law (Nehemiah 8:4 ). 5 . Town in tribal territory of Judah (Joshua 15:26 ) and apparently occupied by Simeon (Joshua 19:2; Sheba may be a scribe's repetition of previous word instead of similar sounding Shema). It may be the same as Jeshua (Nehemiah 11:26 ). See Jeshua 9.
