Gesenius' Hebrew and Chaldee Definition

שָׁכָה a doubtful root, according to Jo. Simonis the same as שָׁגָה, Eth. ሰቈየ፡ to wander. Hence

Hiphil, part. Jeremiah 5:8, “like well-fed (libidinous) horses מַשְׁכִּים הָיוּ wander” (compare Jeremiah 2:23; Proverbs 7:11, and שָׁגָה No. 1). But perhaps it is better, with the Hebrew interpreters, to take מַשְׁכִּים in this passage as part. Hiphil of the verb שָׁכַם, put in the singular adverbially for מַשְׁכִּימִים; in this sense “they are like horses fed (inflamed with lust) in the morning” (compare Isaiah 5:11).

Derivative, pr.n. שָׁכְיָה.
