Gesenius' Hebrew and Chaldee Definition

רָחָב fem. רְחָבָה adj.

(1)  broad, wide, Job 30:14 of the sea, Job 11:9 (opp. to long); used of a wall (where it refers to thickness), Jeremiah 51:58; Nehemiah 3:8 also long and broad, spacious, of the earth, Exodus 3:8; Nehemiah 9:35 of a cup large around (opp. to deep, Ezekiel 23:32); which latter is expressed by its own proper formula; רְחַב יָדַיִם, רַחֲבַת יָדיִם “large on every side,” i.e. extending widely every way, long and broad; spoken of land, Genesis 34:21; Isaiah 33:21 of sea, Psalms 104:25. The signification is sometimes still wider, and comprehends also height or depth; like the Lat. amplus; at least in metaphorical expressions, as, Psalms 119:96, “thy commandment is exceeding broad,” i.e. the law is copious and infinite; also רְחַב לֵב Psalms 101:5 רְחַב נֶפֶשׁ Proverbs 28:25, inflated, i.e. proud; and with a preceding subst., pride, Proverbs 21:4.

(2) רָחָב [Rahab], pr.n. of a harlot at Jericho, Joshua 2:1, 6:17.
