Gesenius' Hebrew and Chaldee Definition

צָמַח to sprout forth, used of plants, Genesis 2:5, 41:6 of hairs, Leviticus 13:37. Transitively, Ecclesiastes 2:6, יַעַר צוֹמֵחַ עֵצִים “the wood sprouting forth,” i.e. producing trees. Metaph. used of the first beginnings of things which occur in the world, Isaiah 42:9, 43:19 58:8. (The primary idea appears to be that of shining forth, compare Syr. ܨܡܰܚ to shine, Arab. طمح id).

Piel, i.q. Kal (used of the hairs and beard), Ezekiel 16:7; Judges 16:22.

Hiphil, to cause to sprout forth (plants from the earth), Genesis 2:9 followed by two acc., to make to sprout forth, as grass on the earth, Psalms 147:8. Metaph. הִצְמִיחַ צְדָקָה to cause deliverance [rather, righteousness] to exist, or spring up, Isaiah 45:8, 61:11. Whence
