צָחַק to laugh. (Arabic ضَحِكَ, Syr. and Nasor. ܓܚܟ, Chald. also חוּךְ id.; all of which are onomatopoetic, and accord with the Greek καχάζω, καγχάζω, Lat. cachinnor, Germ. kichern. This root, with the exception of the passages Judges 16:25; Ezekiel 23:32, is only found in the Pentateuch, and the later writers and poets use instead of it the softer form שָׂחַק. Comp. עָעַק.) Genesis 18:12, seq.; followed by לְ with any one, Genesis 21:6.

Piel

(1) to play, to sport, to jest (prop. iteratively, to laugh repeatedly), Exodus 32:6; Genesis 19:14 specially

(a) with singing or dancing, Genesis 21:9; Judges 16:25.

(b) with women (like παίζειν, ludere), Genesis 26:8.

(2) to make sport of any one, followed by בְּ, and more emphatically, to mock, Genesis 39:14, 17 Genesis 39:17. Hence
