Gesenius' Hebrew and Chaldee Definition

פּוֹל ) m. a bean, 2 Samuel 17:28; Ezekiel 4:9. (I should place the primary idea in its rolling and in roundness of form; compare Latin bulla, Dutch bol, a bean, peul, poeul, a chick-pea, bolle onion, and many others of the same kind; see Fulda Radd. Germ. p. 217. There are also some traces of the same signification in the Phœnicio-Shemitic languages, as Ethiopic ፊልፊለ፡ i.q. גָּלַל to bubble up as water, wallen, quellen; ܐܬܬܦܠ to roll oneself; also פָּלַל, פֶּלֶג, פָּלַם, פָּלַשׁ).
