Gesenius' Hebrew and Chaldee Definition

כְּנֵמָא adv. Chald. so, thus, in this manner. Ezra 4:8, 5:4, Ezra 5:9, 11 Ezra 5:11, 6:13. It appears to be compounded of כְּ and נֵימָא, נֵמָא often in the Talmud used for נֵימַר, נֵאמַר, the letter ר being negligently omitted: thus it properly means, as it has been said, or as we say; and it is so used as to refer sometimes to what precedes, sometimes to what follows. The Heb. translator [of the Chaldee parts of Daniel and Ezra, printed in Kennicott’s Hebrew Bible] renders 4:8, כן אמר (read כְּנֶאֱמַר), and 5:4 כשנאמר (as it has been said). In like manner, Syr. ܟܶܐܡܰܬ to wit, is contracted from ܟܐܡܪ̱ܬ as if thou wouldst say.
